Battle of the blurbs

No new words today, but that’s fine because I did a bunch of shipment related stuff and set the stage for the next installment in HUNTING MIDNIGHT. I’ve realized that I need a lot more character development for the coming pieces, so that’ll be a mission for the coming week.

Blurbs though. Writing the stuff that will go on the back cover(s) for Midnight. Blurbs are HARD. You’ve got to decide just how much of the plot to give, you’ve got to hook a passing Reader with some 200 words or less… luckily there’s an awesome trick I use–I pretend I’m writing a query letter for an agent, using the advice and criticisms from The Query Shark. These are designed for hooking agents, and I’ve found the general idea is a good foundation for blurbs (if an agent wants to bite, then hopefully it means its also hooky for a more casually critical Reader).

Still though, distilling a whole story into its essential energy without gooning your twists is a challenge. The serial nature makes it more complex. Perhaps more on this later!
